The Spring Tri-Alumni Chapter Luncheons hosted by the Ann Arbor Alumni chapter

For many years, the Spring Luncheon was connected to the University Musical Society’s (U.M.S.) May Festival, a series of concerts and events. Because of this association, the Luncheon was a very large event and quite a fabulous affair, and it attracted many of the music and civic leaders from Ann Arbor and the surrounding area as well as the artists who performed for the May Festival concerts.

When the last U.M.S. May Festival was held in 1995, things changed for this Luncheon: how it was formatted, who attended, and its purpose. At the suggestion of the President of the Ann Arbor Alumni chapter at that time, Michele Derr, with consultation with Marion Alan, then the president of the Detroit Alumni chapter, the focus of the May Luncheon became the interaction and relationships we wished to maintain between the nearby Alumni chapters: Ann Arbor, Detroit and Toledo.

The May 5, 2012 Luncheon (pictured below) was the 17th Annual Luncheon in the new format, that is, as a vehicle for the Alumni Chapters of Mu Phi Epsilon Great Lakes District 1 to remain in contact with one another. The chapters take turns hosting, so that each chapter hosts every three years. Traditionally, the Luncheon includes a musical program, often with performances from members of each of the Alumni chapters, but not always.
